Kansas Envirothon Participates in National Conservation Foundation Envirothon

Posted Monday July 27, 2026

Congratulations to the team from the St. John’s Catholic School located in Beloit of Mitchell County for being our Kansas Envirothon Winner!  The team traveled to Starkville, Mississippi last week to compete in the National Conservation Foundation’s International Envirothon Competition. Sponsorship was provided by the Mitchell County Conservation District, the Kansas Envirothon Committee and some private entities through the school.  Please see the final results and photos attached.  Kansas was team number 2640 and placed 33rd out of 43 teams. So much thanks also is extended to their advisors and Rhonda Coffman of the Republic County Conservation District that assisted the team and the competition.

Thank you once again to all Districts who supported teams this past Envirothon season. Conservation District, NRCS, DOC, KACD, KS Forest Service, KS Department of Wildlife and Parks and other organization staff assisted with events.  Districts provided financial fees for trainings, meals, Regional, State and International Competitions fees and/or travel expenses.  It is greatly appreciated!

In Kansas we typically hold trainings in late fall to kick off the season. Local conservation district may also organize trainings for teams in your area.  As of now, four regional competitions are held in late March and early April and the state contest is scheduled for April 28, 2027, at the Webster Conference Center near Salina.

Envirothons are unique as they are natural resources competitions supported and organized solely by Conservation Districts. In Kansas,  Envirothon is a segment under the KACD Education and Youth Committee.  If your business, organizaiton, or even you as an individual  has an interest in supporting a team or teams for the 2027 season, please reach out the the Kansas Envirothon Committee. Common expenses include training registrations, Regional ($75 per team) and/or State Registration fees ($150) and on occasion some teams hae travel expenses. The amount for fees had not been raised in years, but with future costs for the International Competition, we did have to increase them beginning this next year. Thanks to various sponsors from businesses across Kansas (to include KACD, DOC, NRCS, KFS, SWCS and many more), the fees can remain minimal.

The current environmental issue for 2027 is: “Soil Health Management: Agricultural Principles and Stewardship”.  We are excited to share that the Kansas Soil Health Alliance has agreed to partner with us on training for this theme.
