Wacky Days
Wildlife, Agriculture, Conservation, Knowledge for Youth Day, better known as WACKY Day is an annual event for area 6th grade students held at Camp Hansen, Kirwin by the Kansas Natural Resource Foundation (KNRF). KNRF is made up of the conservation districts from Graham, Norton, Osborne, Phillips, Rooks and Smith Counties.
The students will spend a majority of the day attending 20-minute sessions that deal with Wildlife, Agricultural and Conservation. Some of the sessions will be ATV Safety, Fur & Bones, Worms & Soil, Rain Simulator, Stream Erosion Trailer, and hands on Rangeland Grass presentation. A special presentation will be given by a scent dog from Kansas Dept. of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. Some of the other presenters who will be helping this year are from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Kansas Forest Service, K-State Research and Extension, Farm Service Agency, Kansas Farm Bureau, Conservation Districts and Natural Resource Conservation Service.
One of the highlights of the day is the WACKY carnival. Part of the lunch hour will be spent at the carnival where students participate in games such as Animal Races, Farming Plinko, Food Plot Frisbee and Minnow Races, that provided more knowledge on Wildlife, Agriculture and Conservation.
Everyone who attends the day will be treated to a catered lunch, a WACKY Day t-shirt and a refillable water bottle.
WACKY Day is funded entirely by grants and local donations from the business and banks throughout the six counties.
