Tribal

Tribal Outreach

Local conservation districts and NRCS provide technical assistance and financial assistance to private landowners and operators, tribes and tribal members to assist them in protecting and improving natural resources such as soil, water, air, plants, and animals.

Local conservation districts can assist tribes and tribal members in conservation work, and how to apply for NRCS programs such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) which has fund pools designed specifically for tribal Conservation goals with acknowledgement of tribal traditional lands management.

KACD has three main objectives:

  1. Identify opportunities for successful outreach and partnerships between conservation districts, tribal conservation districts, tribes, tribal associations and other partners.

  2. Provide assistance to conservation districts and tribal partners to help facilitate conservation measures and cooperation.

  3. Solicit, share and celebrate success stories in partnerships, illustrating lessons learned.

KACD and NRCS partner with Iowa Tribe of Nebraska and Kansas as they return to their agricultural practices of their past.

The Iowa Tribe is taking steps to adapt to climate impacts, and also building resilience into the health of tribal lands, community, and economy. Ioway Farms transition to regenerative agriculture is healing the soil following decades of chemical-intensive agriculture. Building on the vision of tribal elder and beekeeeper, Pete Fee, the Ioway Bee Farm is enhancing biodiversity and bringing pollinators back into the landscape and providing an economically viable agriculture enterprise. https://iowatribeofkansasandnebraska.com/
