Kansas Reservoir Protection Initiative (KRPI)
The Kansas Reservoir Protection Initiative (KRPI) is a state-funded conservation program designed to help reduce sedimentation in federal reservoirs. Administered through local conservation districts within designated priority watersheds, KRPI provides financial assistance to landowners for the implementation of sediment-reducing practices on lands upstream of multiple reservoirs.
How It Works
Funding for KRPI is allocated from the Kansas Water Plan to conservation district in cooperation with the Kansas Water Office, ensuring strong alignment with statewide water conservation goals. KRPI funding is available in the Tuttle Creek Lake (Kansas Region), Fall River Lake (Verdigris Region), John Redmond Reservoir (Neosho Region), Kanopolis Lake (Smoky Hill-Saline Region), Perry (Kansas Region), Pomona (Marais des Cygnes Region), and Hillsdale (Marais des Cygnes Region) watersheds as highlighted on the map below.
Local conservation districts play a vital role in delivering the program on the ground and their staff will be your point of contact for making an application, assessing site-specific resource concerns, overseeing project implementation, and, coordinating payments after eligible practices have been completed.
Application Period
Applications will be accepted during the month of June.
Producers interested in participating must apply through their local conservation district office.
