The Kansas Department of Agriculture, Division of Conservation, works to protect and enhance Kansas' natural resources through the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, guidelines, and programs designed to assist local governments and individuals in conserving the state's renewable resources.

Kansas Water Office

The Kansas Water Office (KWO) was established in 1981 as the water planning, policy, coordination and marketing agency for the state. The primary function of the KWO is the development and implementation of the Kansas Water Plan to ensure water policies and programs address the needs of all Kansans.

Division of Water Resources

The Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Water Resources administers 30 laws and responsibilities including the Kansas Water Appropriation Act which governs how water is allocated and used; statutes regulating the construction of dams, levees and other changes to streams; the state's four interstate river compacts; as well as coordinating the national flood insurance program in Kansas.

Kansas Department of Health and Environment

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) work impacts the lives of Kansans every day. KDHE's mission is t??o protect and improve the health and environment of all Kansans.

KACD and conservation districts primarily work with KDHE Division of Environment which include the Bureau of Air, Bureau of Environmental Remediation, Bureau of Waste Management and Bureau of Water.

Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) helps conserve and enhance Kansas' wildlife and its habitats, ensuring current and future generations appreciate and enjoy these living resources and associated recreation, while informing the public of the status of Kansas' natural resources, gaining understanding and support in achieving this mission.  KDWP regulates all hunting, fishings and boating licenses as well as managing all state parks, hunters education, and wildlife conservation programs.

K-State Research and Extension improves Kansans' lives, livelihoods and communities through education, research, engagement and leadership. With scientists, educators and volunteers in each of the state's 105 counties, our professionals strive to make the university's research and scientific accomplishments accessible and relevant to every household. Innovations discovered at K-State have led to greatly improved crop, fruit, and vegetable varieties; livestock traits and handling systems; and pest control.

Kansas Forest Service

The Kansas Forest Service (KFS) serves rural landowners, communities, rural fire districts, forest and arboriculture industries, and citizens of the state through its conservation tree and shrub planting, fire management, community forestry, rural forestry, marketing and utilization, and forest health programs. KFS is a 30-person agency housed in the state office in Manhattan, and several district and special program offices around the state.

State Conservation Commission

The State Conservation Commission (SCC) serves as a program advisory board to the Ks Department of Agriculture Division of Conservation.  SCC consisting of five elected commissioners; two ex officio members representing K-State Research & Extension; and two appointed members representing  Kansas Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service.

KS Groundwater Management Districts

Groundwater Management Districts (GMDs) fall under the jurisdiction of Division of Water Resources. Established under the authority of the Kansas Groundwater Management District Act, there are five GMD's in Kansas.

The Resource Conservation and Development program accelerates the conservation, development, and utilization of natural resources; improves the general level of eceonomic activitiy, and enhances the enivronment and standard of living in rural areas.
