Kansas high school students are encouraged to register for Range Youth Camp
Hosted by the Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition, the Kansas Range Youth Camps offers a unique, hands-on educational experience for high school students. The annual summer camp will take place June 9–12, 2026, at Camp Mennoscah near Murdock, Kansas and is open to high school studetns who are interest in agriculture, natural resources and the outdoors... a perfect fit for students who participate in the Kansas Envirothon program!
Designed for students entering grades 10–12, the camp offers an immersive opportunity to explore rangeland management, wildlife, plant science, and livestock production in a real-world setting.
Participants won’t just sit in a classroom—they’ll be actively engaged in learning through field exercises, team activities, and expert-led instruction. Camp attendees can expect to:
- Study plant identification and ecology
- Learn about grazing systems and livestock management
- Explore wildlife habitat and conservation practices
- Gain hands-on experience with natural resource decision-making
- Participate in outdoor activities like archery and environmental exploration
Throughout the week, students will also collaborate in teams to develop and present a rangeland management plan—building leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills that are valuable for future careers in agriculture and conservation.
With limited capacity and growing interest each year, organizers stress the importance of registering early. Camps like this often reach capacity quickly, especially as more students seek hands-on experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world applications.
The cost to attend is $300, and scholarship opportunities may be available to help offset expenses. Contact your county conservation district to inquire about local scholarships.
Students who are passionate about the land—or simply curious about careers in agriculture, conservation, or natural resources—are encouraged to secure their spot as soon as possible.
