Kansas Team Competes at International Envirothon in Canada
Congratulations to the team from St. John’s Catholic School in Beloit, Mitchell County, for representing Kansas at the 2025 National Conservation Foundation’s International Envirothon Competition, held last week in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. As the Kansas Envirothon State Champions, the team earned the honor of competing against 50 other teams from across the United States, Canada, and China, finishing an impressive 24th overall.
The Kansas team showcased their expertise across four core areas of environmental science: Soils & Land Use, Forestry, Wildlife, and Aquatic Ecology. In addition, they tackled this year’s current issue, applying integrated knowledge and problem-solving skills in a dynamic team presentation.
Their journey to Calgary was made possible through the support of the Mitchell County Conservation District, the Kansas Envirothon Committee, and private donors from the St. John’s school community.
The Kansas Envirothon program extends heartfelt thanks to the many Conservation Districts, NRCS, Kansas Department of Conservation (DOC), Kansas Association of Conservation Districts (KACD), Kansas Forest Service, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and other organizations and volunteers who contributed to another successful Envirothon season. Their generous support included funding for training sessions, meals, travel expenses, and competition fees at the regional, state, and international levels.
Envirothon is North America’s largest high school environmental education competition, engaging students in hands-on learning and real-world problem-solving. It cultivates future environmental leaders by encouraging collaboration, critical thinking, and a passion for natural resource stewardship.
