Posted Thursday February 22, 2024

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) seeks public commebt related to a series of revised conservation practice standards in the National Handbook of Conservation Practices (NHCP). NRCS is providing the public an opportunity to provide comments on the specified conservation practice standards in the NHCP.

Visit the Federal Register before March 4, 2024 to let NRCS know what you think about the proposed revisions to eight national conservation practice standards.

The conservation practice codes with proposed revisions include:

  •  Field Border (Code 386);
  •  Filter Strip (Code 393);
  •  Grazing Management (Code 528);
  •  Hedgerow Planting (Code 422);
  •  Mulching (Code 484);
  •  Seasonal Water Management for Wildlife (Code 646);
  •  Structure for Water Control (Code 587); and
  •  Wetland Restoration (Code 657).

The national conservation practice standards describe why and where a particular practice is applied, as well as the minimum planning criteria that must be met during implementation to achieve the intended purpose(s). NRCS regularly reviews these standards to find ways to increase flexibility and incorporate new technologies to help farmers, ranchers, and private forest landowners better protect natural resources on their working lands.
