Kansas represented at National Association of Conservation Districts Annual Meeting

The National Association of Conservation Distirst Annual Meeting is the premier event for leaders in conservation, from conservation district officials and agency representatives to industry professionals. Each year, the meeting draws over 1,000 conservation leaders from across the United States and territories. NACD’s 78th Annual Meeting was held February 10-14, 2024 in San Diego, California.  There were thirty represenatives from the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts in attendance at this year's event.  District managers, local conservation district supervisors, KACD Board memebers, KACD and several spouses made the trip to sunny San Diego.  KACD Executive Director noted "Kansas always has a robust delegation in attendance at the annual event"

Meeting attendees had the opportunity to:

  • Network with landowners, partnering organizations, companies, and government agencies
  • Discover emerging technologies, services, and programs through the National Conservation Showcase
  • Engage in professional development
  • Participate in forums discussing natural resource issues 
  • Develop strategies for education and outreach
  • Influence conservation policy

Kansas received several honors and recogniation during the national event, including:

  • Daryl Donahue, Wilson County,  was a graduate of the 2023 Next Generation Leadership Institute
  • Miami County Conservation DIstrict presented about their urban and non traditioanl farmer outreach programs
  • Kansas NRCS Employee Doug Spencer received the Hugh Hammond Bennett Conservation Planner Award  for the Northern Plains Region
  • Barton County had a third place national poster contest winner
  • Franklin County Conservation District had two national photo contest winners
